CVLS 'Golf Fore Justice' outing scheduled June 12 For the second year, Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation will hold its benefit golf outing on Thursday, June 12, at Tamarack Golf Club in Naperville. An 8:30 a.m. shotgun start is scheduled. The fee of $125 per person includes use of a golf cart, a buffet lunch with prizes, and 18 challenging holes of golf over bent grass, abundant sand and water. William Daley to receive Freedom Award on May 9 Six years ago, William M. Daley was to receive a John Marshall Law School Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award, and his brother, Mayor Richard M. Daley, was the honored recipient of the Freedom Award. Then U.S. Secretary of Commerce, William Daley was unable to attend the Chicago luncheon, so he sent a video acknowledgement. The alumni association expects him back on Friday, May 9, when he is to receive the Freedom Award at a luncheon in the Palmer House Hilton. ISBA Assembly member Antonio M. Romanucci, who is president of the Justinian Society, will receive one of six John Marshall Distinguished Service Awards. Other recipients are Carlton R. Marcyan, a member of the ISBA Family Law Section Council and past president of the Advocates Society; Mia Jiganti, chair of the Chicago Bar Association Young Lawyers Section; retired appellate justice Glenn T. Johnson, Prof. Michael P. Seng and Thomas P. Cernek. Daley, a 1975 graduate of John Marshall who also has received an honorary doctor of laws degree from the law school, has been national president of SBC Communications since December 2001. Before that he was vice chair of Evercore Capital Partners. As special counsel to President William Clinton in 1993, Daley coordinated a campaign to enact the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). He was Clinton's commerce secretary from 1997 to 2000. A partner in Mayer, Brown & Platt on two previous occasions, he also practiced with Daley & George from 1977 to 1980 and was president of Amalgamated Bank of Chicago from 1990 to 1993. In 1994, Daley received the St. Ignatius College Prep Award for Excellence in the Practice of Law and was keynote speaker for John Marshall's commencement ceremony. Seng, whose efforts have facilitated the exchange of countless law students between The John Marshall Law School and Masaryk University in the Czech Republic, will be honored by the Bohemian Lawyers Association of Chicago during its 92nd annual dinner. Seng will receive the association's Liberty Award on Thursday, May 15, at the Riverside Golf Club, where Naperville attorney David W. Krula will be installed as president. The award recognizes Seng's contributions to the study and practice of law and enhancement of law faculties in the U.S. and Czech Republic. He conducts an annual Czech-Slovak legal study trip for Illinois lawyers and educators. A member of the association's scholarship fund committee for several years, Seng also contributed to a law scholarship at Masaryk during a sabbatical as a visiting professor of constitutional law. Previous recipients of the Liberty Award are Robert Gilbert Johnston, dean at John Marshall; Stephen Anderson, editor of the ISBA Bar News; Bernard M. Administrative judges, agencies, lawyers plan conference May 29-31 A three-day educational conference for administrative law judges and practitioners will be conducted Thursday to Saturday, May 29-31, in the ISBA Chicago Regional Office by the Illinois Association of Administrative Law Judges.
