Continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Saturday will be provided by DRIASI, the ISBA insurance program administrator. The Saturday conference format will consist of concurrent workshops during three scheduled time periods. ISBA President Cheryl I. Niro will speak during the 12 noon luncheon on "What the ISBA Can Do for Your Bar Association." Opening remarks at 8:15 a.m. Saturday will be provided by committee chair Christopher G. Perrin of Springfield, and conference co-chairs David B. Sosin of Palos Heights and Lynn E. Patton of Springfield. From 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., conference facilitator Robert Shaver will discuss issues related to "Leading Your Association: A Personal Approach to Leadership." A faculty associate in the Management Institute of the University of Wisconsin School of Business, Shaver has participated in previous ISBA leadership programs. He has a master's degree in business administration and is director of the school's basic management certificate series. From 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., four workshops will be conducted. They are Web Site Development; Non-Dues Income; Membership: What's a Bar Association Without It?, and Public Image of the Profession. After lunch, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., three workshops will focus on the operation of Larger Bar Associations (175-plus members), Smaller Bar Associations, and Specialty Bar Associations. From 3 to 4 p.m., four workshops will conclude the conference. They are Web Site Development; Refining Duties: Responsibilities of Association Officers; How Your Bar Association Can Get Involved in Issues Affecting the Legal Profession, and How to Revitalize Your Bar Association: Shock Treatment for Stagnation. Registration is still open for practice skills series It's not too late to register for the ISBA seminar series, "Practice Skills for New Lawyers," although the first two sessions were scheduled March 8 and March 15. Nine more sessions will take place on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9:15 p.m. in the ISBA Chicago Regional Office. Presented jointly with the Women's Bar Association of Illinois, the programs will help attorneys in practice three years or less, including law school graduates expecting to be admitted in May. Take daughters to work on April 27 in Chicago A special event for "Take Your Daughter to Work Day" is being planned for Thursday, April 27, in Chicago by the ISBA Committee on Minority and Women Participation. Committee member Gayle L. Nelson is the coordinator. The program will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in a 14th floor courtroom of the Illinois Appellate Court, 160 N. LaSalle St. It is open to the daughters and nieces of ISBA members, or other special young women, from 1st through 8th grades. Courtroom tours will include opportunities for the girls to serve as judges. Mothers who are lawyers or judges will discuss their legal careers. A puppet show will take place during the luncheon period. Space will be limited, so interested members are urged to make reservations early. The cost is $10. Two officials of the Illinois Hospital and HealthSystems Association will speak to the ISBA Health Care Section Council during an open meeting at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, in the ISBA Chicago Regional Office. John Bomber, assistant vice president and associate general counsel, and Ann Guild, assistant vice president, will discuss "Health Care Planning in Illinois: The Case for Reform." The IHHA has proposed changes in the scope and operation of the certificate of need program in Illinois, which the hospital community believes has fallen out of step with the health care marketplace. Half-hour segments of the ISBA series, "Illinois Law: Legal News You Can Use," are now being broadcast regularly at 10 p.m. every Tuesday on Chicago Access Network channel 21. The programs, developed by the ISBA Special Committee on Cable Television Programming, provide legal information of interest to the public.
