Funded by voluntary contributions, the Foundation makes grants to worthy charitable, educational and law related activities each year. The foundation also maintains a pension assistance program for needy lawyers or their spouses and provides a research fellowship to each Illinois law school. To help further the charitable and educational principles of the Foundation, The Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation was created. Membership in the Fellows provides the Illinois lawyer the opportunity to join with other top legal professionals in demonstrating their commitment to the legal profession. Membership in The Fellows is by a tax deductible contribution of $100 or $500 a year for ten years. Interest in the Foundation of The Fellows should be directed to the Foundation at 800-252-8908.

Established as a not-for-profit corporation by the Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association in 1981 and operated under rules of the Illinois Supreme Court, the IOLTA program allows interest to be earned on nominal or short-term client deposits held in lawyer's trust accounts.
