General operating expenses for the Center's current activities which include the development of new pro-bono programs in various downstate counties, continued support for existing programs, and coordination of the delivery of pro-bono legal services statewide.
Chicago Legal Clinic, Chicago - $5,000. Salary support for staff attorney serving the underprivileged residents of Pilsen and Austin communities through direct legal services, pro-bono referrals, community education seminars and special programs.
Child Abuse Unit for Studies, Education and Services (CAUSES), Chicago - $5,000. Support Court Advocacy Program to care for the severely abused children with intensive psychotherapy, protective services and courtroom advocacy.
LifeSpan, Chicago - $5,000. Fund legal and social services to victims of domestic violence seeking orders of protection, divorce, custody and support.
ISBA Legislative Affairs Department, Springfield - $16,000. Produce, print, and distribute the Illinois Guide to Statutes of Limitations.
Uptown People's Law Center, Chicago - $10,000. Provide emergency assistance for this agency whose offices, contents, files, books, and papers were destroyed by a devastating fire.
Rainbows, Schaumburg - $4,000. Underwrite the participation of 800 children attending programs which provide effective peer support for those grieving a death, divorce, or other painful transition in their families.
Chicago Legal Aid to Incarcerated Mothers (CLAIM), Chicago - $6,000. Support on-site legal aid and educational services to families of incarcerated mothers. Through public advocacy, CLAIM promotes programs and improvements in government practices to benefit the children of imprisoned mothers.
First Defense Legal Aid, Chicago - $5,500. Support services of staff who provide indigents in police custody with free, immediate legal representation.
John Howard Association, Chicago - $2,000. Fund research, public education, and advocacy efforts designed to improve the juvenile justice system. Current activities include research on reducing the inappropriate use of juvenile incarceration and expanded community services in lieu of incarceration.
Cook County Legal Assistance Foundation, Harvey - $10,016. Support salary of staff attorney in Harvey office which handles approximately 2,000 cases annually.
YMCA Youth in Government, Galesburg - $3,320. Sponsor the statewide judicial portion of the YMCA Youth in Government program which allows youth attorneys to enter a training program on the judicial system, conduct local trials in courtrooms with an actual judge presiding and prepare an appeal.
Prairie State Legal Service, Rockford - $2,000. Develop, print, and distribute key legal educational publications for low income persons to gain a better understanding of their legal responsibilities and rights.
Legal Aid Bureau, Chicago - $7,000. Fund salary of two third year law students who will assist the Bureau in serving low income clients with family law legal services.
Will County Pro-Bono Project, Joliet - $7,500. Start-up costs to implement the bar association's new Pro-Bono project.
Lawyers' Assistance Program, Chicago - $20,000. Support salary of Executive Director of this organization which offers aid and assistance to Illinois judges, attorneys and law students with mental health and addictive illnesses.
Cook County Bar Association/Community Law Project, Chicago - $5,000. Salary support for one staff attorney to reduce waiting lists, coordinate case assignment, review weekly case intake and conduct follow-up case reviews.
CARPLS, Chicago - $15,000. Salary support for staff attorney to work with families whose child's SSI disability payments were terminated under the welfare reform guidelines.
Center for Disability and Elder Law, Chicago - $5,000. Support Guardianship Program of the Center, which provides appropriate resolution of civil legal needs to low income individuals with disabilities, and the elderly. (Formerly the Legal Clinic for the Disabled.)
