The Illinois Bar Foundation will continue to fund charitable and educational programs that promote public understanding of the law and improve the administration of justice.

Carver Community Action Agency - $7,500. Support the Youth Offender Program which allows qualifying first time offenders to serve their punishment in a positive environment with good role models and develop certain job skills.

American Jewish Congress - $5,000. Funding to expand the Community Legal Aid Service Program (CLASP) which provides legal representation to the economically disadvantaged, the elderly, immigrants, and victims of discrimination.

Evanston Community Defender Office - $5,000. Support civil legal services to low income juveniles through counseling and crisis intervention.

Illinois ProBono Center - $40,000. Support general outgoing operations of the Center which current activities include the development of new pro-bono programs in various downstate counties, continued support for existing programs and coordination of the delivery of pro-bono legal services statewide.

The Bakari Institute - $7,000. Assist in funding this organization which researches, preserves and educates the public on African heritage and customs, and uses the knowledge to create youth and community programs that aid in the prevention of juvenile delinquency and deteriorating conditions in East St. Louis.

Association House of Chicago - $5,000. Support Legal Services Program which family law services to low income residence in the Greater West Town area.

Legal Aid Bureau - $7,000. Funding of the Law Student Stipend Program which enables this organization to serve an additional 450 low income families with critically needed legal services.

Uptown Center Hull House - $2,500. Assist in funding the salary of a bilingual court advocate for the Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Project.

YMCA Youth in Government - $2,000. Provide funding for the judicial portion of the Youth in Government Program which allows youth attorneys to enter a seven month training period on the judicial system.

LifeSpan - $5,000. Provide civil representation to victims of domestic violence seeking orders of protection, divorce, custody and support.

Maryville Academy - $5,000. Support the Witness Protection Program that provides a nurturing environment for abused, neglected and abandoned children.

Uptown People's Law Center - $1,000. Emergency assistance after a fire destroyed the building and contents in November, 1996. The Law Center has provided free legal services to the area's poor for the last twenty-five years.

Legal Assistance Foundation Of Chicago - $5,000. Support educational programs for migrant farmworkers and monitoring of working conditions, and preparations of pamphlets in English and Spanish on employment rights and the use and effects of pesticides.

ProBono Advocates - $5,000. General operating expenses for the Civil Court Clinic, which increases access to civil orders of protection for low income clients.

Coordinated Advice and Referral Program for Legal Services (CARPLS) - $15,000. Pay the salary of a part-time staff attorney to provide legal assistance and referral services to approximately 1,100 low income residents of Cook County.

Chicago Legal Clinic - $3,000. Contribute to staff salaries for this organization which is a major recipient of referrals from CARPLS. The Clinic provides services at greatly reduced legal costs to the community of the poor, but above the poverty line, who are unable to obtain legal assistance from other legal aid agencies.
