Midwest Center on Law and the Deaf - $1,000. Assist this organization which provides legal services to the deaf and hard-of-hearing who need such specific communication assistance as sign-language interpreters, assertive listening devices and real-time captioning.
Parent Resource Center - $2,000. Produce and distribute brochures to families experiencing emotional, behavioral, mental or educational difficulties.
YMCA Youth in Government - $2,500. Sponsor the state-wide judicial portion of the Youth in Government Program which allows youth " attorneys" to enter a training program on the judicial system.
Gads Hill Center/Project Sanctuary - $2,000. Funding for this organization which provides a safe place for court-ordered supervision visits between children and their non-custodial parents in cases of domestic violence between parents. Families are referred to the Sanctuary through the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Cabrini Green Legal Aid Clinic - $4,000. Funding to create a Volunteer Program to address the need for legal services for the poor by recruiting, training and equipping known resources. The Clinic serves low-income individuals in Chicago's near-north area, focusing on housing, family and criminal law, and promotes reconciliation and positive change in clients' lives and the community.
Association for Children for Enforcement Support - $4,000. Funding for educational and outreach programs which help low income families achieve economic self-sufficiency.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sangamon County - $3,000. This agency serves children in need of a positive adult influence in their lives, with a mission to foster a positive self-image, emotional stability and social development in children through one-on-one relationships. This grant will allow Big Brother/Big Sister the opportunity to expand services to Christian County, Illinois
Neighborhood Law Office - $7,500. General operating expenses to help grassroot neighborhood groups in the Metro St. Louis area create a healthily, safe and clean environment to foster neighborhood renewal and economic development.
C.A.R.P.L.S. - $15,000. Support salary for one part-time attorney assisting over 1,000 clients a year with legal advice, brief services, referrals or self-help materials when representation is unavailable.
American Jewish Congress - $2,500. Funding to assist Legal Clinic services that include interpreters to translate legal material for Russians immigrants.
League of Women Voters - $1,569. Printing the handbook "Making Your Voice Heard" which explains how to communicate citizen's needs and opinions to those in government who represent us.
CBA - Alliance for Women - $3,000. Assist in funding the construction of a traveling exhibit, Bar None: Pioneer Women Lawyers of Illinois, for display throughout the state, outside of Cook County, for a two year period. (A prior exhibit was displayed at the Harold Washington Library Center in Chicago and Viewed by 10,000 people.)
Cook County Legal Assistance Foundation - $3,000. Salary support of a staff attorney to provide legal representation to poor and elderly clients, specifically dealing with elder abuse.
Lawyers' Assistance Program - $20,000. Support salary of executive director for this organization which offers aid and assistance to Illinois judges, attorneys and law students with mental health or addictive illnesses.
Immigration Project - $5,000. General operating support to provide legal services in immigration matters to low income and disadvantaged people in downstate Illinois. This agency is the only recognized voluntary agency on the state, outside of Chicago, with representatives accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals to represent individuals before the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
Illinois Pro Bono Center - $20,000. General operating expenses for the Center's current activities which include the development of new pro bono programs in various downstate counties, continued support for existing programs, and coordination of the delivery of pro bono legal services statewide.
Lutheran Child and Family Services ( Southern Thirty Adolescent Center) - $5,900. Provide human care services including anger/violence prevention, alcohol awareness, drug use and teen pregnancy prevention to juveniles in the southernmost counties of Illinois.
Chicago Legal Clinic - $3,000. Assist in providing direct legal services, pro bono referrals, community education seminars and special projects to the poor of Pilsen and Austin communities.
LifeSpan - $4,000. Fund civil legal services to victims of domestic violence whose cases involve orders of protection, divorce, support and complex custody litigation.
Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Project (Uptown Center Hull House) - $3,000. Salary support for a full-time bilingual court advocate to assist domestic violence victims proceed through the criminal court process.
Bakari Institute - $4,000. Funding to formulate and utilize instructional films, lectures and peer counseling in a comprehensive effort to impress upon children in the East St. Louis area the seriousness of delinquent behavior. The program strives to occupy children's free time with study sessions, cultural enrichment, workshops and instructions on non-violent dispute resolution.
Children First Foundation - $5,000. Fund the Child Custody Exchange Center which strives to reduce the potential for conflict and violence between custodial and non-custodial parents at the time of exchange for visitation by providing a professional managed and supervised point of exchange.
Family Shelter Service - $5,000. Assist in funding the Children's Program which provides emergency shelter, residential counseling for women and children, a 24-hour crisis line and pro-active outreach to victims of domestic violence.
Chicago Legal Aid to Incarcerated Mothers (CLAIM) - $3,000. Assist in funding on-site services to mothers in prison including family law, child custody and the criminal court system. In addition, CLAIM teaches classes on child custody and parenting to assist mothers when they are released from prison.
