Subsistence Program
The Foundation was originally formed in 1951 to grant
subsistence gifts to those in need. Subsistence may be
in the form of a monthly income supplement, flat lump
sum payment, or a loan. Subsistence is available to lawyers,
spouses or dependants, who because of age, illness or
other incapacities, find themselves in financial distress.
The situations occur for a variety of reasons, the most
common being depleted savings due to illness or other
tragedy which no longer enables the recipient to live
in circumstances above poverty level. The subsistence
gift program seeks to ensure that its recipients have
adequate housing, food and basic medical care. Last year,
the Foundation provided over $48,420 of assistance to
those in need. If you are aware of a fellow attorney or
his/her family member in financial need, please contact
the Foundation office.
