Springfield museum slates Lincoln’s birthday events
Several programs commemorating the birth date of President Abraham Lincoln have been scheduled next month by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield.
Historian Allen C. Guelzo will speak during a luncheon at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11. His topic is “Who Won the Lincoln-Douglas Debate?”
The Henry R. Luce Professor of the Civil War Era at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, Guelzo has an honorary doctorate from Lincoln College in Illinois.
He has won the Lincoln Prize and the Abraham Lincoln Institute Prize for two of his books, “Abraham Lincoln: Redeemer President” and “Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation: The End of Slavery in America.”
Guelzo will sign copies of his books in the museum store from 10 to 11 a.m.
On Tuesday, Feb. 12, performances of “Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln: A Friendship Unique” will be presented at 11:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. in the museum’s Union Theatre.
Richard “Fritz” Klein will appear as Lincoln, and Michael Crutcher will take the role of Douglass. Museum admission is required.
At 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, the museum will conduct “Trivia Night at the ALPLM: Lincoln, Lore and Legends” with prizes.
