YLD hopes for comeback win in blood donor competition

Either members of the Illinois State Bar Association are less generous than members of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel, or they are more proprietary about their bodily fluids.
A year ago, the IADTC trounced the ISBA in a blood donation contest sponsored by the Young Lawyers Divisions of the two organizations. The event is open to lawyers of all ages.
Our YLD chair, Gregg A. Garofalo, believes that ISBA members will even the score by showing up for the second annual blood drive between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, in the third-floor multi-purpose room at Hinshaw & Culbertson, 222 N. LaSalle St., Chicago.
Make that appointment now by calling Jennifer B. Groszek at (312) 541-0022 or  mailto:Jennifer.Groszek@guntymccarthy.com.
The procedures will be conducted by Heartland Blood Centers, an independent medical organization that serves 35 hospitals in a 12-county region of Illinois and Indiana.
Giving blood does not hurt as much as it helps. This time of the year, the supplies of whole blood and plasma tend to be drained in medical facilities by seasonal accidents and emergency surgeries.
Your participation could save a life – perhaps yours. Studies have shown that donating blood reduces excess iron stored in the body, therefore improving vascular health. And a pint weighs about a pound that you could safely lose.
In addition, the brief preliminary eligibility screening could reveal a change in blood pressure, pulse rate or hemoglobin content that you should be aware of.
Donors who have traveled outside of the United States during the past 12 months should call (800) 7TO-GIVE for an eligibility determination.
